Normandy is a fascinating region of France with a long history of important military and cultural events. Its coastal towns and battlefields are of particular interest to visitors, but this is a country with much to offer beyond the main sites.

The Alabaster Coast – A chalky coastline of beautiful bays, cliffs and sandy beaches is popular with discerning beach goers, but Normandy also offers breathtakingly picturesque countryside and the home of impressionist painter Claude Monet. The smart capital city Rouen, with its extensive medieval heritage, is the perfect base for exploring the Upper Normandy region.

Honfleur – This pretty, half-timbered town in central Normandy is known for its fine wine and cider. The elegant half-timbered town hall is a must see for anyone visiting Honfleur and its lively market square is the place to stock up on local delicacies.

Giverny – The world-renowned gardens and countryside surrounding the country home of Impressionist painter Claude Monet are another must-visit. Visit the village and discover its quaint half-timbered houses that influenced Monet’s painting style.

Mont Saint-Michel – A rocky island near the mouth of the Couesnon River, Mont Saint-Michel is one of Normandy’s most popular sights. Here you can explore a museum of the UNESCO-listed site and admire its evocative ruins.

Cotentin – The marshlands and tidal islands of the Cotentin peninsula are a great place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of this part of France. This area is a popular destination for canoeists and climbers, with its craggy gorges and rocky outcrops.
