A Normandy Jug

From the French (Normandy) region of France, this engraved glass cider or wine jug was crafted circa 1850. It has a rolled lip with a protuberant ridge and thick handle. The molded lid is riveted, providing a secure seal to keep the contents from spilling out.

Historically, Normandy is known for its apple cider and its apple brandy Calvados which has been produced in this part of France since the 11th century. It is one of the main exports from this area and is widely available in bars and restaurants across the country.
